South Bronx Burger - The Burgers we tried

South Bronx Burger By Montana Singapore – POMO (Closed)

As Montana Singapore re-branded themselves, it created South Bronx Burger together with Fabulous Dough (yet to try). Each has its specialty. South Bronx Burger is a burger bar specialises in freshly made burgers. All the ingredients in each and every burger is made from scratch daily, ensuring freshness in the quality. These include all the sauces used in the burger, the bun and even the bacon is smoked in house. It was amazing that South Bronx Burger painstakingly gave brilliant thoughts and went to great length to craft each burger to perfection. We were blown away by their passion, hardwork and meticulousness.

South Bronx Burger has created 7 burgers when we visited them. 4 beef burgers – The Bronx ($9.90) comes with bacon, Gochujang Beef ($10) consists of gochujang coleslaw, The Unami ($11) is with mushroom and The Mac Daddy ($12) is topped with jalapeno mac & cheese. Three other non beef burgers – Southern Fried Chicken ($10), Lemongrass Prawn ($10) and Truffle Spam ($9.90).

South Bronx Burger - Lemongrass Prawn ($10.90)

We tried 4 out of the 7 creations. How I wish I have the appetite to try all 7. Lol! First was the Lemongrass Prawn ($10.90), the only non-beef burger we tried. The prawn patty was infused with Lemongrass. I could savour the sweetness of the prawn and the lightly scent of lemongrass. It complemented well. Though the mango, red onion coleslaw and green curry mayo was added to enhance the taste, I still find it a little too light for my palette. In addition, the sweet potato burger bun somehow masked the flavours of the patty.

South Bronx Burger - The Unami ($11)

The Unami ($11) beside the beef compose of miso mushroom, sandwiched with bonito flakes and mayo. Sounds very much like a Mushroom burger with an Asian twist. A pity, the mushroom flavour were not strong. As such, it tasted very much like a normal beef burger perhaps with a Japanese flavour due to miso and bonito flakes.

South Bronx Burger - The Bronx ($9.90)

Classic ingredients such as the beef patty (the key ingredient), sauce, melted cheese and bacon existed in The Bronx ($9.90). Though it may sound like a typical classic beef burger, it is the smoked bacon that differentiated itself from the rest in the market. As the bacon is specially smoked in-house by South Bronx Burger.

South Bronx Burger - The Mac Daddy ($12)

Bringing up the rear is a humble looking burger, The Mac Daddy ($12). I was skeptical when I spotted the look. But it turned out to be our top favourite burger among the 4 we tried. All the ingredients assembled in The Mac Daddy not only complemented each other but more importantly enhances, taking the taste to the next level and even to perfection. It simply hit all the right notes. As it consist of jalapeno mac & cheese, it resulted in a spicy burger.

South Bronx Burger - Truffle Fries

South Bronx Burger - Triple Fries

As having the burger alone might sound too boring. One could choose to top up $4 to complete the meal with a triple fries (normal fries, curly fries and criss cut fries) and a drink. Optional add on to the burgers are also available with choices such as smoked bacon ($2.50), fried egg ($1.50), extra cheese ($1.50), truffle fries ($2) and extra patty ($5).

South Bronx Burger - Southern Fried Chicken Wings

Two sides were on the menu Southern Fried Chicken Wings ($6.80) and Mac & Cheese Fritters with Tomato Relish ($8). We tried only the former. The marinate was absolutely tasty. The chicken wings absorbed the marinate and were tender. We prefer eating it without the BBQ sauce.

South Bronx Burger - Red Velvet ($6.90)

How could we miss out dessert in any meal? To fit the burger theme, South Bronx Burger introduces 4 Ice Cream Burgers on the menu; Red Velvet ($6.90), Black Sesame ($6.50), Thai Iced Tea ($5.90) and Berries N Cream ($5.90). We tried only the Red Velvet, as South Bronx Burger ran out of the rest. It was quite ashamed.

The scarlet coloured bun, making the Red Velvet Ice Cream burger inviting. In addition, red coloured food is known to increase appetite too. Hazelnut rocher ice cream, coconut nutella sauce and granola topping added to the crunch. It was heavenly.

NAHMJ Verdict

Finally some thoughts from NAHMJ. We enjoyed the burgers and the sides served by South Bronx Burgers. Especially when all the ingredients were made from scratch daily, it guaranteed freshness in quality and no doubt value for money too.

South Bronx Burger - Facade

Two thumbs up from each of us (4 diners). Will we return? No doubt, it is going to be “YES”!
