KUVO Singapore - Bar

KUVO Singapore, Tapas and Bespoke Cocktail Pairing – Orchard

KUVO Singapore is an original lifestyle concept by tcc, located in the heart of Orchard Road. A couple minutes of walk from Somerset MRT station. As it is perched at level 2 of Orchard Shopping Centre, it is away from the bustling shopping activities. When you entered the restaurant, you will feel as if you have entered a world of its own. KUVO derived from a French word ‘cuvee’ which is equivalent for blend which the restaurants aims to do just that with the new concept and new menu.

The space where KUVO Singapore occupied was huge, hence they have classified it into 3 section. If you happened to get to the restaurant by escalator, you will be greeted by the gift shop.

KUVO Singapore has recently revamped its menu and introduced new Tapas to its menu and it pairs bespoke cocktails to Tapas. This is the highlight and the draw of KUVO Singapore.

To start of, one could order a glass of Antica Fratta Brut ($17 a glass, $98 a bottle). This is exclusive to KUVO Singapore. It is a very easy to drink sparkling wine, sweet and fruity. I am sure it will be a hit among ladies.

Brandy Flambeed Beef Cube ($22) glazed with red wine sauce was soft and tender coated with brandy aroma and red wine sweetness is one of the key tapas.

KUVO Singapore - Grilled Octopus ($16)

The second new key tapas is the Grilled Octopus ($16)  sous-vide octopus leg with slow-cooked potato and smoked paprika.

The other new key tapas is the Altantic Code Meuniere ($20). Sweet pea-encrusted the fresh Cod Medallion with Pearl Barley fricasse and citrus nutty-brown butter.

KUVO Singapore - Atlantic Cod Meuniere ($20)

KUVO Singapore - Calamari Ajillo

Calamari Ajillo another seafood dish we tried. We thought this dish was a little chewy.

The next 5 Tapas, each was paired with a bespoke cocktail. This is an interesting and attractive feature at KUVO Singapore. I highly suggest for diners to try this out.

KUVO Singapore - Slipper Lobster ($15) & Hello Cel'lo ($21)

The Slipper Lobster ($15) sauteed with habanero, bell peppers and cilantro was paired with Hello Cel’lo ($21) made with Bankes London dry Gin, limoncello liqueur, celery bitters and balsamico. I was surprised at how refreshing and the cocktail enhances the sweetness of the lobster. It was enjoyable.

KUVO Singapore - Kurobuta Yakiniku Donburi ($16) and Tales of Shu ($21)

KUVO Singapore - Kurobuta Yakiniku Donburi

Kurobuta Yakiniku Donburi ($16) the classic Japanese rice topped with egg and Pork complemented with Tales of Shu ($21) is a way to enjoy the Japanese way. The Tales of Shu is freshly brew via syphon coffee maker using genmai tea, sake, Lillet Blanc and fresh orange peel.

As always, anything with rice is NAHMJ least prefered. This is a lightly flavoured dish, moreover after all the strong and rich tasting food, comparatively, this is less outstanding. NAHMJ would suggest that this to be the first dish to order and served.

KUVO Singapore - Wagyu & Camembert Sliders ($17) and Green Iceland ($21)

Wagyu & Camembert Sliders ($17) for the burger lovers has Asian deep fried shrimp wonton and wasabi mayonnaise. The East meets West dish is harmonized with Green Iceland ($21) where the KUVO’s Italian Antica Fratta (exclusive to KUVO Singapore) was concocted with Japanese umeshu. The East meets West theme is extended even to the cocktail.

KUVO Singapore - English Scotch Egg ($14) and Captain BR ($21)

KUVO Singapore - English Scotch Egg

Next was an English classic dish, the English Scotch Egg ($14) accompanied with Captain BR ($21) where BR is referred to British Rum. Captain BR is commixed with Earl Grey infused Rum, fresh lemon and soda water. Oh my, it was so English.

KUVO Singapore - Kuvo Coffee Hot Wings ($14) and Brewski Yen ($21)

Lastly, was the Kuvo Coffee Hot Wings ($14) and Brewski Yen ($21). This is my favourite of the night. As always, wings is a hit with beer. At KUVO Singapore, using Kirin beer together with Suze, lemon and ginger ale resulted in the Brewski Yen.

KUVO Singapore - Mixologist Yutaka Nakashima, the helmsman at the bar in KUVO Singapore

All these bespoke cocktails ($21) are brought to us by Mixologist Yutaka Nakashima, the helmsman at the bar in KUVO Singapore.

NAHMJ Verdict

NAHMJ felt that KUVO Singapore is a great place to chillax with friends and colleagues over your favourite bespoke cocktail concocted by Mr Yutaka Nakashima. Do remember to make your reservation when you are popping over on Thursday to Saturday night.
