Aloha Poke, Hawaiian Rice Bowl – Amoy Street, Singapore

Aloha Poke is serving Poke (pronounced as “Poh-kay”) at Amoy Street. Poke is a staple at Hawaiian choice staple. The traditional Poke consist of seasoned Ahi (Tuna) tossed with toasted sesame seeds, sweet onions and scallions. At Aloha Poke, it is served with salad and rice.

 

The cafe envrionment was very causal with all bar table seatings. And everything from ordering to collection were self-service.

There were some tropical looking like ornaments, I suppose that was an effort to make the place look a little Hawaiian. The service crew will greet diners “Aloha” as they as make their way into the space and at ordering counter too.

All the ingredients available for selection of their Poke Rice Bowl were neatly displayed at a counter for diners viewing pleasure.

How do you order the Poke Rice Bowl? Simple.

 

First grab a order chit found around the display counter. Write your name on the order chit. NextChoose the size. There’s Lil’ Swell consist of 1 scoop of 75 g poke ($11.90), Standard Nalu with 2 scoops 150 g of poke ($15.90), lastly the Big Kahuna which has 225 g of poke ($19.90).

 

Aloha Poke - How to Order

 

Next choose your Base, either rice or salad. Followed by choose your Poke, Ahi Tuna or Salmon. Both came in 3 flavours; Original, Wasabi Mayo and Spicy. Followed by choose 2 complimentary, mainly vegetables and lastly a superfood (choice of Avocado, Chia Seeds, Pomegranate and Quails Egg.

I went for the Standard Nalu. Brown Rice as base, requested for salad dressing on the salad. My choice Poke were Spicy Ahi Tuna and Wasabi Mayo with Flying Fish Roe and Pumpkin Seeds and Chia Seeds superfood.

Once done, join the queue to order. Wait at the other corner of the counter for collection. Your name will be called when your order is ready.

I shared the Poke Rice Bowl with my sister. It was filling. We were surprised by how tasty the rice bowl was. The flavours were mainly from the Poke sauce.

Drinks were also available, such as Cocoloco Fresh Coconut Juice ($5.90), Kona Beer, Cider and Nakd Water.

Alternatively, you could go for the complimentary fruits infused water, full of Vitamin C.

 

 

NAHMJ Verdict

 

We like the taste of the Aloha Poke Bowl. It was tasty and was a hearty meal too. Though it doesn’t come cheap.
