Chef’s Table by Chef Stephan Zoisl – Tras Street, Singapore

Tras Street in Tanjong Pagar is a street filled with famous restaurants. And certainly the food served at these restarants are delectable. Beside Chef’s Table by Chef Stephan Zoisl that this post is dedicated to, I have previously covered May May, Violet Herbs and Gattopardo Ristorante di Mare which are also along this stretch. I have been wanting to dine at Chef’s Table for quite some time but the opening hours weren’t too friendly for me. Anyway … I was glad, I finally made it.

 

When I entered the restaurant on a Tuesday evening, I was surprised to find how quiet it was. Tables were scarce. I was a little surprise to find all bar tables and chairs. It wasn’t too comfortable for diners who are short like myself. The space was very much like a private kitchen with dinning room extended.

Menu

 

Chef’s Table has, in my opinion, a pretty unique menu. It has what the usual Ala Carte Menu and it does Omakase style with choice of 3 courses ($75), 4 courses ($95), 6 courses ($128) or 8 courses ($150).

On its Ala Carte Menu were 2 sections; Daily Special and Classics. We decided to proceed with the Daily Special on its Ala Carte Menu though I was equally interested with the Omakase Style menu since I like surprises.

 

 

On Our Dinner Table

 

There were 4 sub-section for its Daily Special. We ordered one each from each category.

 

For Starter, 3 choices, and we chose Beef Tagliate ($22). A dish consisting of beef tenderloin, vine cherry tomatoes, aged parmesan cheese and rocket leaves. All ingredients complemented each other perfectly and it was the aged parmesan cheese that brought the best out of the dish.

Next, under the ‘Pasta & Risotto’, likewise 3 choices and we selected Pan seared US scallop, risotto with cauliflower texture ($38). Ingredients were certainly fresh and we like the crispy cauliflower that added some texture to the dish.

Sirloin Steak wtih globe artichoke, broccolini, fermented grains and thyme jus ($48) for Main. A second beef dish. But we enjoyed the steak.

Lastly on the Sweet, we had Inspired By Red ($14), Raspberry sorbet, marinated raspberry and salted caramel. Sour was the word came into mind when I started and so was it when I ended the dish.

At The Chef’s Table, for coffee, the brew was Nespresso Coffee. You won’t be getting the usual Latte or Cappuccino. It was a little disappointing.

NAHMJ Verdict

 

NAHMJ has a satisfying meal at The Chef’s Table. The portion was reasonable so it was considered big for a small eater like myself. We thought well of the dishes we ordered, with the exception of dessert. I could make do without Inspired by Red.

Will NAHMJ return to The Chef’s Table by Chef Stephan Zoisl for the Omakase styled dinner? It is on NAHMJ’s radar.
