Red Eye Smokehouse Restaurant & Bar - More Interior View

Red Eye Smokehouse Restaurant & Bar – Cavan Road, Jalan Besar, Singapore

Red Eye Smokehouse is an American-style Barbecue Smokehouse by the folks behind Riders Cafe located along Cavan Road. It is located in a cafe dense area with very competitive peers such as AEIOU,  Chye Seng Huat, The Refinery, The Bravery, Two Bakers, Tiramisu Hero. And newer entrance Bao Makers20F Specialty Coffeehouse, Cafe Print who are equally fierce competitors.

I was at Red Eye Smokehouse on a Sunday afternoon. When I arrived, it was rather empty which I was a little surprise as I read quite a few good review about them.

The space was long with seatings in a row, tables were neatly placed.

Menu was relatively simple with the various meat and if you prefer to have a look at the food itself to decide, turn to the display counter, like the roast on display in the Cold Storage Supermarket or perhaps Giant if you prefer.

Beside the meat, some vegetable sides for the omnivores. For the herbivores, you will probably be turned away or make do with the sides.

Red Eye Smokehouse Restaurant & Bar - Order cum collection counter

Orders and collections are both over the counter. So you probably have guessed that it is entirely self-service. Yes, that’s correct.

Red Eye Smokehouse Restaurant & Bar - My Lunch

Since I was there alone, I couldn’t order more than what I wanted. I went for the Angus Beef Brisket and Pork Sausage with 2 sides, Candied Yam and Coleslaw. The Chicken Thigh looked extremely delish and tempting but since I know I am not going to finish it alone so have to forsake it.

Pork Sausage has a slightly coarse texture but I like the taste. As for the US Angus Beef Brisket it was as enjoyable as I deemed. The entire slice of meat was overall dry and the char edges though was smokey complimented to the meat but was a little hard and of course dry.

Lucky, there were sauces to combat the dryness; a smokey chipotle which was spicy and sweet & tangy. I like it when both were mixed.

Red Eye Smokehouse Restaurant & Bar - Sides

Interestingly, the sides were larger than my so called mains. The candied yam from the looked seems like it was sweet potato, even the taste was likewise. No clue of yam. I thought the coleslaw weren’t too bad.

Red Eye Smokehouse Restaurant & Bar - Tapping Tapir Hibiscus & Lime Soda

It served mainly draft beer and a few non-alcoholic soda, the Tapping Tapir Soda. 3 flavours were available; Hibiscus & Lime Soda the sweeter one; with the next 2 more sourish, Pineapple & Calamarsi, Grapefruit & Charmomile. I went for the sweeter one, Hibiscus & Lime. It was refreshing.

NAHMJ Verdict

The Red Eye Smokehouse is a place more sharing. Unless you have big appetite, otherwise it will be too boring. Food served at the Red Eye Smokehouse is expensive.

The total damage was $42.30 for lunch, rather skimpy size of meat. In case you did not have a good idea of what I have ordered, below is the photo.

A very expensive meal in my opinion. And what’s more, food wasn’t fantastic.
