The Coffee Academics from Hong Kong has finally started out its soft launch at level 2 of Scotts Square. All its cafe seems to have a little different style, including The Coffee Academics Singapore. Though the material used were mainly wood.
If you noticed, The Coffee Academics Singapore is known as Coffee Academics Sensory Playground with a total of 7 sensory stations. I am not sure how it will work out since currently it is still in the soft launch period till end of the month.
Interestingly, the interior design of The Coffee Academics Singapore seems to be made up of different theme. At the far right of the cafe was a zen looking square table with tatami-like on the seats. While on its left was a corner filled with bar-like tables. Somehow, the different design components were in harmony.
While still on the soft launch phase, till end of Dec 2015, partial menu was featured at The Coffee Academics Singapore. Nonetheless, the selection was considerably sufficient.
First, we went for the Academics Breakfast ($25). Instead of bacon, ham was dished instead. The first item that has an ingredient differ from what the menu was stated, pointed out by one of our diners. I usually am not meticulous with such details.
We thought the Scrambled Eggs With Crayfish ($23) was a special dish which was unseen on another menu so far. When presented, we were surprised to see caviar.
Academics Pancake Tower ($19) was the second dish that had look very different from the menu picture and its description. My 2 other diners were disappointed by first and this experience has made it worse.
For the taste, fluffy, light sweet pancake. I thought it was fairly well executed. We chose the Espresso Ice Cream which went well with the dish.
Lastly, the cuppa. We ordered a Latte and a Cappuccino. I thought it was as good as the ones served at Hong Kong.
A medium acidity, full body with hint of dark berries undertone.
NAHMJ Verdict
While at soft launch, the service is still rather under par. The service was slow. It seems The Coffee Academics Singapore is taking forever to get the food ready and serve. We weren’t informed of the substitute of the ingredients in the dishes and so on.
In addition, my 2 dinning partners felt the pricing was a little too steep for the quality. The golden question, will I return? For me, I would. Price isn’t a concern for me, though service is. I would still like to give them a second chance; hoping that service quality will improve.
