Tai Yuen Shark's Fin Seafood Restaurant - Facade

Tai Yuen Shark’s Fin Seafood Restaurant – Lamma Island, Hong Kong

As usual, any island or fishing village, stretch of seafood restaurants in sight is common. So is at Lamma Island, Hong Kong. There were 2 areas that has seafood restaurant, Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan. This round, we tried out Tai Yuen Shark’s Fin Seafood Restaurant 泰苑魚翅海鮮酒家 at Sok Kwu Wan.

Tai Yuen Shark's Fin Seafood Restaurant - Seating Area

The seating area was non air-conditioned, with ceilling fans to cool of the heat. And the setup was fairly simple by the waterside. As such, smoking was allowed in the restaurant. This was a point that it didn’t appeal to me.

Over at Tai Yuen Restaurant, both set meal and ala carte were offered. Set Meal is a good option for us, since we were lazy to pick and choose.

Tai Yuen Shark's Fin Seafood Restaurant - Menu

The first dish to be served was the Calamari (fried squid) with a special sweet sauce by the side. The seafood was fresh and batter was light with peppery flavoured and thinly coated. It was a little too chewy as I suspect the bigger squid were used instead of the smaller ones.

When dipped into the sweet sauce, it provided a sweetish hint to the savoury dish. I am sure not all will prefer enjoy it with the sweet sauce.

Tai Yuen Shark's Fin Seafood Restaurant - Steamed Prawns

Very quickly, the next dish, Steamed Prawns was served. It was certainly fresh and perfectly steamed.

Tai Yuen Shark's Fin Seafood Restaurant - Stir Fried Bamboo Clam with Bean Paste

Followed closely was the Stir Fried Bamboo Clam with Bean Paste served. Fresh was also noted in Bamboo Clam. A pity the sauce that the sauce was too little. It was great to go with rice.

Tai Yuen Shark's Fin Seafood Restaurant - Steamed Scallops

The last on the tabl was the Steamed Scallops with chopped preserved vegetables and glass noodle. It was not as tasty. It could have been better. The consolation was the scallops were fresh.

NAHMJ Verdict

The selling point at Tai Yuen Shark’s Fin Seafood Restaurant fresh seafood. Most of the dishes we tried were tasty with its natural flavour. It isn’t the typical Chinese restaurant with strong sauce added to the dishes. Nonetheless, a great way to enjoy seafood.
