Who doesn’t love Fried Chicken? I couldn’t resist just by hearing the 2 words. As my family have the same passion for Fried Chicken as I am, especially my brother-in-law, a eating chicken expert, we were on a Korean Fried Chicken (치맥집) craze. Consisting of 5 tasters in the panel, some times 6, these are NAHMJ Picks for 2015.

The Korean Fried Chicken at Chicke Up got some mixed review. One find it salty. One said it was all right. The remaining three felt it was a little too bland. I belong to the “a little too bland” group. I suppose that was due to the chicken wasn’t well marinated. Some parts got more salt, where others got less.
Chicken Up Korean Fried Chicken was juicy with the thinnest batter. Yet crispy despite it was a takeaway with a journey of about 10 minutes.

Choo Choo Chicken is also one which got mixed review. 4 Yes and 2 No. I belong to the “No” group. More than 50% said yes. Our Chicken expert said the fried chicken went excellent with the Chilli sauce.

You can’t have Bon Chon Chicken without any sauce. We tested and found it only original natural Chicken flavour. In short, it isn’t tasty eating it this way. It is the sauce that spice things up. It is yummy when we dip the fried chicken in Hot Sauce. The Hot Sauce is certainly the charm.
Oven & Fried Chicken

All 5 tasters casted our vote for them. The chicken is tasty, fragrance with its marinate, retaining its crispiness and yet moist. It has the smoothest and lightest batter among all we tried. In short, delicious.
A pity that Oven & Fried Chicken isn’t too hygience. I spotted the service crew picking something out of the chilli sauce and then serve it to us. I confronted him and he feigned ignorance for awhile. As I persisted, he finally admitted but done nothing more. I would expect that they discard the entire bottle of chilli sauce but this wasn’t the case. Poor hygience practice, I wouldn’t go back.
Chir Chir 치르치르

Chir Chir Chicken was the closest fight with Oven & Fried Chicken at Telok Ayer Road. Though one taster, our chicken eating expert, felt the pepper-ish taste was far too strong. The remaining didn’t find this as a concern. In fact, we enjoyed this strong flavour.
Wabar

Crunchy Wings come in two serving size, 4 and 8 pieces. The takeaway is packed in a nice brown box with various condiments and Korean pickles. What more, all these were contained in a nice brown bag with handle easy to carry. We love the takeaway packaging from Wabar.
Most importantly, Wabar Crunchy Wings scored well in the taste test. Though the wings looked dry, it was crunchy, tasty, succulent wings.
Twins
7 Craig Road Singapore 089667
Tel: +65 6221 5205
FB: https://www.facebook.com/Twins.Korean.Restaurant?fref=ts
Opening Hours Monday – Saturday and Public Holiday 1100 to 1500, 1700 to 0000; Sunday 1700 to 2300
This has a very similar taste as the Crunchy Wings from Wa Bar. But beware, Twins charges a 10% of the food value for your takeaway boxes. We noted the 10% service charge for our takeaway and on enquiry, the serve said it was for the takeaway boxes. The boxes were normal plastic box, nothing fanciful nor re-usable. OMG, such an expensive takeaway. We won’t do a takeaway from Twins anymore. Either dine-in or refuse Twins.
Jinjja Chicken
249 Victoria Street (Bugis Village), Singapore 188032
Website: http://www.jinjjachicken.com/
FB: https://www.facebook.com/jinjjachicken/
Menu: Jinjja Chicken Menu
Opening Hours Sunday – Thursday 1100 to 2200; Friday – Saturday 1100 to 2330
The latest kid in town. Crispy fried chicken with awesome sauce. Both its Soy Garlic and Yangnyeom were equally fabulous. Besides its signature Korean Fried Chicken, expect to find some popular Korean Mains and Burger too. For sides, 3 types of fries and others include Tofu, Kimchi and Seafood Mandu.
NAHMJ Verdict
It was amazing to find most chicken to retain its crispy factor even for takeaway for a journey of as long as 30 minutes. Most restaurant doesn’t have a surcharge for takeaway with Twins having the most expensive which is 10% of your food value. We no longer will go back to Twins for any takeaway.
