Gourmet Plus GastroBar located along Frankel Avenue serves mainly Western Food and lots of wine selection. The restaurant has quite some traditional fare on the menu.
Set Lunch
3-course Set Lunch is available on weekdays, except Public Holidays from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm. With Salad or Soup as starter. If you prefer Foie Gras, simply add $10. All the mains were choice of Pasta. It was pretty disappointing. Lastly, you get a Dessert of the Day.
Salad of the Day was pretty disappointing. Not much of salad dressing drizzled over and we spotted some yellowing leaves. It was very much like eating “grass”. At the very least, it was compensated with (real) crab meat and not crab stick.
There were 4 choices of Pasta; Chicken Pasta in Spicy Cream Sauce, Pork Sausgae Pasta in Arrabiata Sauce, Chicken & Mushroom in Tomato Sauce and lastly the Bacon & Mushroom Pasta in Cream Sauce. We chose the last pasta dish on the menu. It was rich, creamy and luscious. Simply heavenly.
The Dessert of the day was the Fruit Cake. Soft, dense, rich and SWEET were the words I use to describe it. It was far to sweet for our preference.
Ala Carte
Chicken In A Tub ($30) was a roasted corn-fed chicken served with roasted potato and vegetables with the essence of chicken demi-glaze.
The chicken was extremely well marinated. Each inch of the chicken meat was tasty, none was bland. The moisture were also locked within the meat.
Sticky Date Pudding ($10) was the second dessert we tried. I regretted making the choice since it was sweeter than the Fruit Cake.
The core of the cake was lumpy and hard. The dessert experience was poor.
Verdict
Pasta and Mains dishes (at least the 2 we tried) were excellent. Forgo the dessert and that’s a wise choice. If you need to satisfy your sweet tooth like mine, hop over to the next cafe along the same stretch for some fulfilling sweets. And you won’t regret making your the choice.
