Grain Traders has an interesting hashtag “Feeding People Right”. I suppose that’s their slogan or perhaps mission too. From the name, I would imagine it to be a cafe at Capita Green serving different types of grains. But I couldn’t imagine how would it be done and I was eager to find out.
Interestingly, the cafe has 2 counters. One for drinks and pastries. The other for meal.
It serves 2 menu. One for Breakfast and one for lunch and of course a list of Beverages too.
Breakfast
At Grain Traders, it serves Polenta Eggs Rancheros, Porridge, Oatmeal and Bagels for breakfast.
We were curious to find out the taste of the Porridge and went for the Roasted Chicken Brown Rice Porridge ($8.90). Only Brown Rice were available for its porridge. The other porridge was roasted pork porridge ($8.90). In summary, tasty.
Cakes are available throughout the day, such as its signature Summer Berries Crumble ($5.50).
Lunch
On its lunch menu, it served basically “rice” bowl, Build Your Own Bowl ($16 per bowl). Rice was with inverted commas as you can substitute it with some options.
First select a grain. Choices available are Japanese Rice, Brown Rice, Quinoa, Bulgur Wheat, Soba Noodle or a Super Green Bed (consisting of Spinach).
Next, select a protein from 5 picks. Such as Beef, Tuna, Salmon, Chicken or Pork varieties.
Followed by a Hot Vegetable. 6 options; Butter Squash & Sweet Potato, Furikake Corn, Charred Veggies, Green Medley, Beets & Carrots and Wild Mushroom.
And then 2 Cold Vegetables; with selections from 7, Mixed Beans Pico de Gallo, Marinated Peppers, Bean Sprout Salad, Apple Kimchi, Cucumber Pickle, Crudites & Colesaw with Kaffir Lime Vinaigrette and Wafu Tomato.
Finally to the topping. Option available were Crushed Peanuts, Toasted Crushed Rice, Crispy Garlic & Shallots, Seed Mix, Nuts Mix, Chilli Mix, Furikake and Raisins. Lastly, choose a sauce. Choices are Tamarind Chipotle
Lastly a sauce. You will find Tamarind Chipotle Vinaigrette, Basil Vinaigrette, Curry, Wasabi Sauce, Beetroot Feta Yoghurt, Salsa Verde, Miso Caramel and Asian Gravy.
There is an option to complete your meal with a drink (Apple and Pear Juice or Mineral Water) and a Chip or Fig Loaf or Banana (choose 1).
If you find it too cumbersome to Build Your Own Bowl, instead choose one from its 6 Signature Bowls available.
I went for The Square Meal with 1 Build Your Own Bowl consisting of Quinoa for grain, Grilled Striploin Steak as proteins, Charred Veggies for Hot Veggies and Marinated Peppers and Apple Kimchi from the Cold Veggies. Finally it is sprinkled with Crispy Garlic & Shallots with Asian Gravy.
My choice drink was the Apple and Pear Juice with a Salted & Pepper Chips
Beverage
Both the espresso and filter brew (by hand or batch) were available at the cafe.
The Cappuccino is labelled as White Coffee ($5.50) on the menu is a blend of Panama Red Trogon & Tanzania Karatu with a medium acidity, full and smooth body filled with nutty and grapefruit flavour note.
The Batch ($3.50) uses Guatemala and La Pastora blend or the Brazil, Dutra and Jatoba blend. Alternatively, by Hand filter brew ($6) uses Ethiopia and Suke Quto blend. If you are looking for Cold Brew, luck is with you, available in Black ($7) or White ($7.50).
Last but not least, other drinks like the Hot and Iced Cocoa or Tea were also available.
Verdict
We like the concept of Grain Traders and the food. Beside being healthy option, it was tasty too. We are pretty sure it is going to attract the executive crowd.
