Ice Cream Shack - A view of counter

Ice Cream Shack – Bukit Merah Central, Singapore

Ice Cream Shack has set foot with a Brighton Beach theme, with the colourful bathing boxes in-house at Bukit Merah Central. When my brother and I landed at the door step, looking in from outside, he immediately commented on the wall feature. It is certainly a lovely sight we enjoyed.

From the name, you would know that it is an ice cream parlour cafe.

With almost 2 dozen of flavours, my estimation, to choose from. One would be very spoilt for choice. I have a hard time deciding as I wish I could have all the flavours to myself. So the good thing was we could try before ordering.

The friendly lady at the Ice Cream Cafe informed us that they will be coming up with new flavours regulary.

Ice Cream Shack - Ice Cream Flavours Available

I tried about 4 flavours. First the Maple as I was told that it was the new flavour. It didn’t impress me. Next the Earl Grey Lavender, neither too. Followed by the Silician Pistachio, a little better, I could accept but thought it could be better. Lastly, the Thai Ice Tea. This was the flavour of my choice, though not perfect. My brother was fast, the second and he decided.

As we love our waffles, we went for 2 scoops and a waffle for sharing.

Ice Cream Shack - Our Order, Waffle with 2 scoops of Ice Cream

Our order is a waffle with Durian and Thai Ice Tea Ice Cream.

Ice Cream Shack serves the Belgian Waffle, the crispy kind. The waffle has a perfect texture; crispy, airy and fluffy that melted in the mouth which both of us agreed. At the same time, we also agreed that the waffle wasn’t as fragrance as it should be. At the end of the dessert, my brother remarked with “Not shiok.” For those reading the post and do not understand “Shiok”, a Singlish word. It means we did not enjoy to the fullest.

In anyway, this could be a minor flaw to most as it is negligible when eaten with the ice cream. Usually the ice cream would have masked the flavour of the waffle.

As for the ice cream, smooth like soft serve, lightly creamy and dense like the gelato and it was at a perfect sweetness level (for us). There were certain outstanding flavours while some not so. All in all, we think it is promising. With some tweak to the recipe for some of ice cream flavours and the waffle, Ice Cream Shack would be fabulous.
