Meow Square Cafe - Front

Meow Square Cafe – Far East Square (Closed)

Meow Square Cafe has taken over What For Dessert. Meow Square cafe offers Taiwan Taro Ball Desserts and Milk Tea. After all, the space still remains very much a dessert cafe. From local fusion desserts to Taiwan desserts.

The cafe adopts a simplistic homely design.

Pretty cosy after all.

Menu

The main highlight in Meow Square Cafe is the Taro Ball Desserts. It is similar to the Taiwan Dessert, Blackball, if you know this popular chain which has quite a number of outlets throughout Singapore.

Meow Square Cafe - Taro Ball Menu

The dessert menu is simple, you get to either choose the assorted sets with toppings defined or personalize your sets by mix and match. To personalize your set, first choose your base, then choose the toppings of your choice and finally decide if you want any dressing.

Meow Square Cafe - Beverages Menu

Meow Square Cafe offers Tea (both with or without milk) and Milk Shake under their Beverages Menu. The Tea is very much like the Taiwan bubble tea.

Meow Square Cafe - Ice Cream

If so far those that mentioned aren’t your cup of tea, there is ice cream at $5 a cup too.

Taro Ball Dessert

I tried the Signature set once which consist of Grass Jelly, Pudding, Taro Balls, Pearl, Coconut Cream and instead of the Red Bean I replaced with Aiyu. Alternatively, you could opt for the set and add toppings too.

Subsequently, I went for the Personalized Set. I choose Grass Jelly + Pudding ($2.80) as the base. For topping, I have Taro Ball – 10 pieces ($2), Pearls ($0.60), Ai Yu Jelly ($0.80) and Brown Jelly ($0.80) with Coconut Cream (Free). The end product is the below.

Milk Tea

I was keen to find out how their Milk Tea compares with Koi and Gong Cha. Under the Milk Tea Section, there are 10 flavours with 4 having the cat paws. I suppose those are the signature Milk Tea. I was feeling adacious and ordered a Cheese Milk Tea. There were 5 toppings. Among the 5, I was eying on Yogurt Popping Boba. This was my first time seeing it on a menu, thought it was interesting, hence it was added to my Cheese Milk Tea.

Meow Square Cafe - Cheese Milk Tea with Yogurt Popping Boba

I felt the combination was rather weird. With Cheese as savoury, yogurt as sour and milk tea being sweet, it just sounded strange to me.

But interestingly, all three experimenters enjoyed the Cheese Milk Tea with Yogurt Popping Boba. The cheese and milk tea combination peculiarly strike a chord. Two independent ingredients when combined turned into an amazing taste which neither take any limelight, instead it magnify as an unique flavour.

I usually avoid the cream but for this you must have it together. It was so creamy. One of the taster, commented, it is like ice cream and indeed.

Meow Square Cafe - Yogurt Popping Boba Topping for Milk Tea

The Yogurt Popping Boba Topping together with the Cheese Milk Tea is exotic. Try it and you know what I mean. The Yogurt Poppping Boba shaped like the size of a Pearl, tasted exactly like yogurt and it pops in the mouth. I like the popping sensation.

Verdict

Since I first knew about Meow Square Cafe, I have been returning as I prefer their Taro Ball Desserts to Blackball.

The milk tea is also a great alternative.

NAHMJ Recommendation

Of course Taro Ball Dessert. Choose Pudding as the base, Taro Ball and Brown Jelly as toppings, and I won’t miss out on Ai Yu Jelly.

For Milk Tea, try the Cheese Milk Tea with Yogurt Popping Boba topping.
