Fu Lin Men Dou Lao Singapore - Table of Hot Pots and ingredients

Fu Lin Men Dou Lao Singapore – North Canal Road, Raffles Place

Fu Lin Men Dou Lao, the concept flew all the way from Macau and landed at a shophouse in Singapore, 16 North Canal Road, covering three levels. In case you do not know where North Canal Road is, it is around Boat Quay and Raffles Place area.

The restaurant offers Macau styled hotpot. And the selling point of Fu Lin Men Dou Lao is that they offer only the freshest quality ingredients.

Sauces

An array of sauces were offered. A total of 24 types. On the counter were Beef Sauce, sliced chili padi, chopped spring onions, beef sauce, chilli oil, sesame sauce, peanut sauce, name some; just to give you an idea of what are available.

If you have no idea what concoction to come up with for your sauce to dip with your food, ask for Fu Lin Men Dou Lao special sauce. It comes with 2 versions; spicy (left in the photo) or non-spicy. They were very secretive about the mix and didn’t want to share the secret mixture at all.

I like my mix better which consist of peanut sauce, sesame sauce, ferment beancurd and garlic. If you like it spicy, add some chilli oil or chilli padi into it.

Hotpot Soup Base

Fu Lin Men Dou Lao offers 9 type of soup; spicy, non-spicy or local vs China styled. The 9 variety are

  1. Ma-La Spicy Pot 特色麻辣($8)

  2. Mushroom Pot 野山菌菇 ($8)

  3. Chestnut Chicken Pot ($10)

7 Tom Yam Soup ($8)

  1. Vegetarian ($8)

The soup is generally lightly flavoured as compared to the China-styled Hotpot. I tried a number and my favourite is the Bone Soup.

The uniqueness of Fu Lin Men Dou Lao is that they serve the hotpot individually.

Cold Appertizer

A crunchy, sightly spicy Cold Black Fungus Salad 爽口木耳 ($6).

Fried Fish Skin ($8) was crispy but slightly bland.

I dipped it with some fermented beancurd to enhance the taste.

Vegetable

Vegetables always go well in soup. If you like a variety, go for the Assorted Vegetables ($12)

I prefer the Fresh Live Red Snapper (whole) 红鸡 ($55). We were informed that the fishes were live and sliced only minutes before it was served.

Live Tiger Prawns ($18) when served, we can still see that the legs were moving. It was nice of the service crew to de-shell the prawns for us.

Poultry

One of the highlights are the Homemade Assorted Treasure Balls ($16) with Squid, Chicken, Prawn and Pork.

Each meatball is so chewy and smooth.

Fu Lin Men Dou Lao Singapore - Pork Shabu Shabu

If you do not eat Beef, go for the Pork Shabu Shabu instead.

Rice / Noodles

To complete the meal, there are Rice and Noodles for selection. We were served the Chinese Sausage Claypot Rice 腊味煲仔饭, small ($12).

Fu Lin Men Dou Lao uses a special soya sauce for mixing the rice.

The rice was grainy, I suspect some may find it a little hard. I can’t resist the Waxed Meat and the Chinese Sausage, together with the well-mixed rice with special soya sauce, it was heavenly.

Verdict

Fu Lin Men Dou Lao serves only super fresh quality seafood and light delish soup base in an elegant ambience. And the ingredients to go with the hotpot is also array. Service is prompt and friendly while location is convenient.

NAHMJ’s Recommendation

At Fu Lin Men Dou Lao, go for Bone Soup Pot with your favourite ingredients. I would recommend its seafood, particularly SnapperLive Tiger PrawnsBeef Lamb Platter and the Homemade Assorted Treasure Balls.

The Chinese Sausage Claypot Rice 腊味煲仔饭 is a must, especially if you love claypot with chinese sausages.

For the sauce, go for a mix of peanut sauce, sesame sauce, ferment beancurd and garlic.
