London Fat Duck, the Wagyu of Duck is whipping out Duck dishes from Singapore, Scotts Square. From the name one might have thought it to be a Western restaurant, but it isn’t. It is a Hong Kong Styled Restaurant serving typical Hong Kong food such as noodles, roast and Dim Sum.
Though my Mom and I came back from Hong Kong not long ago, we crave for good Hong Kong Dim Sum and we went down to London Fat Duck to explore.
We reached there about 12 pm on a Saturday, took a queue number from the counter. There were 10 groups or pairs ahead of us. We waited from about 35 minutes to get a seat. The good thing was while waiting, we started to tick off what we wanted to eat on the order chit. Once our number were called, we handed over the chit to the service crew.
Hong Kong Noodles
My Mom is a noodle fan, so we can’t miss out on it. And since it is serving the Wagyu of Duck, we ordered the London Roast Duck Noodle.
Mom loves the noodles while I was neutral as I am not a noodle fan. For the duck, we find it flavourful, tender and especially the skin. The amount of marinate and the timing was perfect.
London Roasted Selection Rice
The next duck dish we went after was the London Duck Dumpling. In it beside duck meat, I noted salted egg yolks and probably some mung bean paste. They offered a soy sauce and sugar for the dumpling.
The dumpling when eaten without any dip was bland. I would prefer that the seasoning were added to the dumpling instead.
Hong Kong Dim Sum
I wouldn’t want to miss the highly raved about Signature Black Peper London Duck Bun. Duck meat with bbq like sauce and pepper were the main flavour of this bun. The bun skin were similar the the Tim Ho Wan Crispy BBQ Bun.
We tried the Crispy London Duck Snow Bun as well since many of the Dim Sum items we wanted were not available. This bun is very much similar to the Signature Black Peper London Duck Bun, except it does not has pepper as seasoning in it. Among the two, we prefer the former. Somehow with pepper, it tasted so much better.
The Signature Steamed Cheong Fun is rolled with seafood paste fritters. We like the smooth Rice Roll but find it a little too salty especially the side that were soaked in the sauce.
The other non-duck dish we tried was the Steamed Shrimp Dumpling. We would rate it as pretty usual.
Our choice Dim Sum among the few we tried is the Signature Black Peper London Duck Bun. We highly recommend it to all.
Dessert
We only managed to try one dessert, the Mango Puree With Sago as the other item Handmade Mochi with Fresh Fruits was not available.
The mango flavour was a little too diluted. We could hardly bite onto any sago.
Verdict
We find most of the duck dishes to be outstanding. The non-duck dishes though delish, were pretty usual. There was nothing that Wow us. The next round we visit London Fat Duck, we will order only the roast duck with rice or noodles and the Signature Black Peper London Duck Bun.
