One of the many shop along Jalan Kayu is the Jane’s Cake Station. A shop with not much of interior design theme, but simple and looking something like the 80s. Amazingly, it could survive on only two types of cakes. You could only find the Chocolate Fudge Cake and Durian Cake. Both cakes are plain looking, nothing fanciful, no frills. If both aren’t your preferred choices then Jane’s Cake Station is not for you.
One additional information. Jane’s Cake Station only sells cakes in whole. Each cake is, I think, about a kg. No slice cake is available for sale.
On Mother’s Day, my sister bought a Chocolate Fudge Cake from Jane’s. She will never get the Durian Cake, though I love to try, as she hate the taste and smell of Durian.
The whole cake is covered with dark chocolate fudge. It is around 10 cm thick with 2 layers of chocolate sponge cake. Between the two layers of sponge is sandwiched with dark chocolate fudge. The same type of fudge as the outer layer.
The Big Question! How was the taste? The sponge cake was soft with just enough moist. Personally, I think it would be better if it was more moist. The cake was not as chocolaty as the fudge. I would prefer if both were as equally chocolaty. And there was a heavy saltiness tint in the chocolate flavour which I think it was way too much. Lastly, the big spoiler was the bitter after taste. Though it wasn’t obvious as both my mom and sister did not notice till I pointed out. To me, this bitter after taste was the killer of the cake. I lost the satisfaction of enjoyment. The Chocolate Fudge Cake from Jane’s Cake Station was a huge disappointment.
