Cream & Custard is located behind Tiong Bahru Plaza. It is in the Bukit Ho Swee estate. It is a few minutes walk from Tiong Bahru MRT station. Now one more cafe joining Tastemaker, Sin Lee and Le Halo

 

 

White-washed walls with white furnitures. Dried lavenders and some others dried flowers were carefully placed on tables and shelves resulted a softer feel.

 

 

Limited number of cakes and pastries were neatly laid on the display counters. A total of eleven were found. There were some common varieties such as Chocolate Tart, Tiramisu and Croissants.

 

Chocolate Earl Tart

I was attracted to the Chocolate Earl Tart as I love all things Earl.

 

 

The tart was beautifully decorated with berries with some golden dusting. I like the biscuit tart base and the chocolate. It was a pity that I couldn’t taste the Earl Grey. If it was a Chocolate Tart, it would have been excellent.

 

Cappuccino

I ordered a Cappuccino to go along with my Tart.

 

 

The coffee was medium to light body, medium acidity with nutty, chocolate hint. The aroma was a little way too light. In short, I think it could be better.

 

Passionfruit Meringue Tart

I always like Passionfruit Meringue Tart, so I will not want to give this a miss.

 

 

This Passionfruit Meringue Tart was more sweet than sourish. I would prefer one with more balance.

 

Tropical Delight

An alternative to the Passionfruit Meringue Tart is the Tropical Delight.

 

 

This is a cake with mango mousse seated on a thin layer of sponge cake.

 

Tiramisu

I didn’t try the Tiramisu. My brother had the whole cake to himself.

 

 

Fortunately, I didn’t. As he found a nylon material in the cake. I have private message Cream & Custard over their facebook page but todate no reply from them. Anyway …

 

Strawberry Shortcake

The Strawberry Shortcake from Cream & Custard came in a small cup. I was a little disappointed with this dessert. I don’t mean it wasn’t delicious but not the way I expected. This isn’t my typical shortcake with spongy cake layers.

 

 

Instead, all it has is abundant vanilla whipped cream, very nice fragrance. There were lots of strawberries in it too. On the top, it was crumbles to give extra texture to the dessert.

 

Sticky Date Pudding

I find that the Stick Date Pudding was the best.

 

 

The cake was soft with nice fragrance and the toffee sauce wasn’t shocking sweet. Together with the chopped walnut, it was a great combination. This is my favourite among the items I tried from Cream & Custard.

 

Takeaway Box

The takeaway packaging was pretty rustic. It would have been better if the box is microwavable.

 

For those who wanted to do a takeaway, do remember to bring a recycle box along. Cream & Custard goes green. In order to use minimum material, they do not provide plastics or paper bag carrier.

 

Conclusion

I like the ambience and the warm service from Cream & Custard.

Personally, I felt Cream & Custard fare better in the non-fruity cakes. I like their Chocolate Tart and the Sticky Date Pudding most. All in all, there are room for improvement to the fruity versions. Importantly, they need to be extra vigilant in their food making process; to prevent unwanted stuff from getting into it.
