And Why - Interior

And Why Cafe – Bali Lane

And Why, a cafe at Bali Lane, sandwiched between Stateland and Honeycomb has a New York Deli concept which was well executed in all aspects. From the interior design to the menu to the waiters’ uniform. And Why is bought to us by the folks of I Am. They use very intriguing names. Interesting! Since it is by I Am, so this is another Halal Cafe. Definitely great news for our Muslim Cafe Hoppers.

And Why - One Part of the Cafe

And Why does something very different to their coffee. They do not serve Espresso based coffee, something that we are very familiar with. For pure Espresso based coffee drinkers, you might be disappointed. Instead two brew method were available; the Chemex and V60. And there are 3 beans to choose from; Panama Boquete SHB, Sumatra Mandheling Gayo and Guatemala Puerta Verde. They provide a good mix of choices and I like this concept. One good point about And Why is they do provide milk or soda water, at least for now, if you do need them to mix with your black brew coffee. In addition, you will find the Cold Brew on the menu too.

And Why - Coffee

If you do not prefer the Black Coffee, there are Mocktails and other hot beverages such as Tea and Chocolate and Sparkling or still Water.

Food-wise, you will find mainly Sandwiches and Salad. There are also pastries, Cheesecakes and Muffins too. For the Sandwiches, there are 3 selections of bread, the Foccacia, Italian Bread and the Baguette.

Now the big question. How does the food and drink fare? Was it good?

And Why - Lobster Mobster Sandwich

When I saw And Why’s menu, immediately, I knew what I wanted. It was the “Lobster Mobster” Sandwich. I have it with Italian Bread. Each sandwich comes with a side of either Salad or Chips. I chose Salad, a healthier choice, though I prefer Chips. When served, I find the portion a little too small. I am sure most will not be filled after a portion but it was good for me. The open sandwich filling of lobster was well mixed with rich mayo and lots of chopped celery and onions were added to enhance the taste. I like such strong tasting food. But I find that I should have requested for Foccacia instead as the herb taste was a little too strong for the lobster filling.

And Why - Sumatra Manhedling Gayo, Chemex

Now, the coffee. I always like Sumatra Manhedling. So when I spotted Sumatra Manhedling Gayo on the menu, I was pretty excited. I always enjoy the earthly, heavy body of this coffee. Likewise this coffee has this characteristics. But somehow, it was a little too acidic then the usual. Not too sure why.

The service in And Why was friendly and warm. And what I really like about And Why is that they provide a very good introduction to the menu. While I was enjoying my food, they even posed for a fun photo upon a request from a customer. I enjoyed that sight. I am keen to try other sandwiches from And Why when I am in the mood for sandwiches. And I am sure I would be trying the Sumatra Mandheling with the V60 at my next visit.

And Why is the name And Why? Hehe!
