The Daily Press - My Lunch, Ponteh Babi Sandwich with Cappuccino

The Daily Press Cafe At Toa Payoh

I was in anticipating since their facebook was up. It took them a pretty long time to start operation. I am not complaining. This may be a good thing so that they will be more prepared.

When I got to know that they have opened their door, I planned for a visit as soon as I can. For those who know Frozen By Thousand Blessing, it is at the same block.

The cafe has a vintage vibe due to the flooring with some industrial element that blended pretty well. It was a pity that there were a structural pillar that kind of hindrance for moving through the cafe.

The Daily Press - Food Menu

Currently, they were serving only sandwiches for their soft launch. I certainly hope, they will have more variety when they officially open. Besides sandwiches, there are drinks and cakes too.

The Daily Press - Babi Ponteh Sandwich fillings

Their most popular items for now is the Korean “Fried” Chicken, but I was in the mood for pork so I went with Babi Ponteh. It was a sandwich filled with slice Pork Belly well cooked in dark sauce and some spice. The Pork Belly was nicely scented with the sauce. There was a bed of lightly preserved prickles of shredded carrot and cucumber with some chopped chilli and a leaf of lettuce together with the slice Pork Belly were on Ciabatta. Personally, though I felt a little disgusted by the thick layer of fat, it was simply delish.

The Daily Press - Cappuccino

For the coffee, I would say it was decent, medium to full body, medium to low acidity with some bitter dark cocoa and somewhat nutty taste note. And perhaps with a little dark berries too.

The sandwich I have was certainly fantastic and I am impressed. I am keen to return to try their House-Cured Salmon and the popular Korean “Fried” Chicken. Nevertheless, I hope The Daily Press could have a little more food on their menu when they officially launched their cafe.
