I was surprised to find a store serving Taiyaki and Soft Serve at Chinatown. In fact, they were at the current location for quite awhile, since November 2013 and it is almost a year later that I found their existence.
Oyoge Taiyaki is mainly a takeaway outlet though they have placed a few tables and chairs around the stores for dinning in. They serves mainly Mochi Taiyaki and Soft Serve. When I was there, I noticed that there were six flavours; Sesame, Azuki Beans, Matcha, Cheese Cake, Strawberry and Melon. For the Soft Serve Ice Cream, they were serving only Sweet Potato and Melon. Between Sweet Potato and Melon, I favour Sweet Potato. As they don’t offer sample so I ordered one and try. The Sweet Potato Ice Cream has a unique aroma which I wasn’t quite used to it at the first few mouth but subsequently, I quite like it. The soft cream is smooth and creamy and there were a few very tiny icy crystals in my first mouthful.
l think the Mochi Taiyaki fare better. I bought a total of four (matcha, sesame, red beans and cheesecake), one each for my family members. The “skin” of the “fish” is chewy like the Japanese Mochi ball. The filling was very packed. Each and every bite, there’s enough filling. My Mom who loves the Mochi ball loves this very much. The difference, this is much larger. Lol.
Since the waiting time could range from 5 – 10 minutes or more, Oyoge Taiyaki has offered pre-order service.
I am sure I will be a regular patrons, getting it regularly for my Mom, to satisfy her craving. 😛
