Chalk Farm - Kiosk

Chalk Farm, A Cake Shop At Paragon

It seems I have not been to Paragon for ages. It’s strange as I make regular trips to Mount Elizabeth Hospital for medical appointment. Perhaps is the basement that I missed somehow. And so, I discovered Chalk Farm during my recent trip there.

The kiosk was quite nicely done up with white as the main colour theme.

Chalk Farm - Black & Gold Sesame Cake

I ordered two pieces, the Black & Gold Sesame Cake and the Lemon Yoghurt Loaf. As I couldn’t resist the charm of the Red Velvet so I got one home as well. Luckily I did so as my mom love it.

The Black & Gold Sesame Cake is a little salty. I like such dessert. I could never resist any dessert that contained the salty taste. The slice has two layers of cake with abundant amount of black sesame. The sesame flavour was strong enough to savour it. The cake was very well baked; very soft and crumbly and not at all dense. The butter cream was so generously slabbed on the cake. Though it was a thick layer but not cloying. I enjoyed it but my mom didn’t.

Chalk Farm - Red Velvet Cake

My mom loves the Red Velvet Cake as it has a very chocolaty flavour. But I find it pretty normal, though the cake is very soft and fluffy. As soft as a sponge cake.

Chalk Farm - Lemon Yoghurt Loaf
Lemon Yoghurt Loaf

Lastly, the Lemon Yoghurt loaf. The cake tasted like butter cake with some hint of orange aroma and a little sourish from the yoghurt. The texture is much firmer and denser than the other two slices. It came as a loaf with sugar frosting glaced on the top of the loaf to balance the sourness I suppose.

The presentation of Chalk Farm’s cake is not pretentious. You won’t find extra cream added just to enhance or beautified the look of the cake. What notable is the texture of their cake, soft and fluffy and not at all dense in an oil cake. That was excellent. But in terms of the flavour-wise, as some are rather unique, there were mixed view among myself and my mom so it is very much personal preference involved. I suppose it is this uniqueness that make their cake extraordinary.
