With Oriole Coffee Roasters closed, it opened door to The Alley Cafe. As I entered The Alley Cafe, I felt the place looked dark, nothing much of lighting and with the dark coloured row of sofa seats by the side, make the cafe looks a little gloomy. At least there were some bright red cosy pillow on the sofa which brighten the cafe a little.
The menu were two pages; one page for drink, the other for food. Beside the usual coffee found in the cafe, they offered quite some other drinks such as wine (white & red), beer, sparkling wine, cider and beer. As for food, there are mains with beef, fish, salad, pasta, desserts, sandwiches and sides.
I feel that I am lacking of greens so I decided to order a salad. On the menu, I found a pretty meaty salad, Macho Salad. There are smoked salmon, grilled chicken and bacon with mesclun salad. If I am correct, the greens were tossed in a simple vinaigrette dressing. Something unique about the salad is a scoop of guacamole with diced tomatoes that is tangy was topped on the salad. This increased the richness of the entire dish and somehow giving some creaminess to the salad. For diners who don’t want too much meat, or looking for something light, you may want to skip this.
The coffee is good. It has a medium body with low acidity and a pretty strong caramel and almond flavour. I enjoyed the coffee very much.
The Alley Cafe nestled along the pretty quiet Keong Saik Street is a nice place to chill with friends or to spend time alone on the cushy sofa seat and enjoy a great cup of cuppa with some food.
