Extremely Popular Teppei Japanese Restaurant at Orchid Hotel

Teppei Japanese Restaurant is a very popular Japanese restaurant in Tanjong Pagar. The precise location is Orchid Hotel. The restaurant attracts long queue at every weekday lunch. Thirty minutes before the restaurant opens its door for diner, the queue is already forming.

Like many restaurant in the area, it has a bar counter seats. It allows twenty diners. It is a small restaurant and very organised. A cup of ice green tea, a pair of chopsticks and a wet tissue were placed on the table waiting for diner to take their seat. At 12pm sharp, the server will start bring the guests into the restaurant. The first guest will be seated on the far left of the seat then the subsequent seats will be filled.

On the table, there are three side dishes for diners to help themselves while waiting for the food. The Radish and Pork and the Beansprouts were sweet while the preserved vegetable is savoury. They are very generous with the amount of pork put into the radish and pork side dish. The pork chunks are as huge as the radish chunks.

My lunch was Sashimi Rice. Teppei was very generous with the sashimi too. The pieces were huge. I feel that the Sashimi Rice served in Teppei is very home style and it is very different from other restaurant. A special prepared sauce was drizzled over the fish and some special concoction was dusted over the dish too.

Each day, Teppei has a special. You will be informed by the server when you are in the restaurant. I noticed that they have written it on a white board near the cashier too. But you probably won’t be noticing it.

Teppei is popular for its Omakase that is served during dinner. There are three different set at $50, $60 and $80.

It was a filling and satisfying lunch. I enjoyed it very much. I will try out the Omakase someday.
