After dusk, shutters of the hawker stalls at Amoy Street Food Center are shut one after another except the Quan Ji Zhu Chao who begins to cook a storm for diners till dark. This name has been around for some time and if you frequent this hawker centre, you might have either notice it or even try it. Though I heard about it, never did I visit them till one day, some Parishioners suggested this place for dinner. I gladly joined since it has been on my bucket list.
The advantage of dinning at this hawker centre after office hour is that there are ample seating space. You can choose any as you like. But don’t chose some where at level 2 since they are located at the ground floor.
Beginning with 2 fried items. First is the beloved Har Cheong Kai. One of the tastier rendition and very crispy even after it was left for a while. We are also glad that it wasn’t too salty. Next is the Deep Fried Prawn Roll, amazing, toothsome item. Dipping them into the sweetish black sauce elevated the flavour.
Even the Stir-fried Kai Lan was extremely delicious. Contributed by the abundant amount of garlic in it.
When the Stir-fried Black Bean Mee Hoon was served, I was apprehensive about this lumpy blackish plate of food. I change my mind, after the first mouth. It was flavourful. The mee hoon is a little too chewy. Some may love such texture though.
It was a shame that our last dish, the Omelette Fried Noodle with Prawn was far too salty. We couldn’t savour the fragrance of the noodle, except for briny taste.
I find the food whipped at Quan Ji Zhu Chao to be amazing. A pity, I suspect they added lots of MSG as I find myself very thirsty after having their food. I am not sensitive to MSG unless in huge amount.
