The yearly affairs of crab at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza is invaded with Sri Lankan Crab Feast At Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant for 2018. Executive Chinese Chef Bryan Wong has decided to do away with Hairy Crab this year for several reasons. I don’t think I miss out much as I am not a fan of the fame Chinese Crab. In fact, I rejoice upon receiving the news as I love the meaty Sri Lankan Crab more.
We aren’t stranger to Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant since we visited for them for their revamped menu previously. Though it has been quite a while ago.
Sri Lankan Crab Feast At Wan Hao
Starting from 2 October to 30 November 2018, we rejoice over enticing menu of Sri Lankan Crab Feast At Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant, located at level 3 of Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza. Offering various items from Dim Sum to Ala Carte items to Set Menu.
First and foremost is the various Dim Sum. My favourite is the Pan-fried Crab Meat & Pork Bun 青葱蟹肉香煎包 ($8++ per 2 pieces). Crab meat and pork are always great combination with thin bun skin and generous filling. This item reminded me of the Shanghai Pan-fried Bun. The healthy Steamed Four-season Crab Meat Dumpling 四季蟹肉饺 ($8++ per 2 pieces) and equally delish Deep-fried Netted Rice Roll with Crab Meat and Prawn 银网双鲜卷 ($10++ per 2 pieces).
Amazing Conch & Codonopsis Pilosula (Root) Chicken Soup with Double-boiled Fish Maw 党参响螺炖花胶 is a must have. I clean up the entire bowl even though I usually avoid soup. This is available only as part of the set menu.
Braised Crab Claw with White Pepper Heng-hua Vermicelli 白胡椒蟹钳银粉煲 ($50++ per portion) is a wise selection to complete the meal. Dominating peppery flavour among the crustacean aroma.
Among all the Crab dishes I savoured, I least appreciate the Sauteed Asparagus and Bamboo Pith Stuffed with Crab Meat 双蟹芦笋竹笙卷. Few reasons for being so. This dish is light in flavour. Almost all the components is in its natural scent. Furthermore, the bamboo at time has an unpleasant taste which I tasted in these. Perhaps an improvisation of the sauce would improve the overall aroma.
Subsequently is a dish I reckon it to be the best of the night, Deep-fried Sri Lankan Crab with Spiced Chicken Floss 风味肉松斯里兰卡蟹 ($50++ per portion). The highly aroma chicken floss infused with salted egg yolk on the half Sri Lanka Crab (approximate 500g) is worth every calorie.
Lastly, ending the meal with the lightly saccharine and mild herby spice Rock Sugar Ginger Tea Gingko Nut & Double-boiled Hashima 姜茶莲子雪蛤.
The Sri Lankan Crab Feast At Wan Hao was such a fabulous meal which I eager to return for my favourite Deep-fried Sri Lankan Crab with Spiced Chicken Floss. And I would love to try other Sri Lankan Crab dishes too.
